License Terms

Licensed Products (Licensed Services)

  • The CATV Essential Patent License covers receivers and services for digital cable television generally known as "Cable 2K".

  • The CATV Essential Patent License may not cover some digital broadcasting receivers which are labeled as "CATV Path-Through Capable". Please contact us for further information.

Who are required to obtain the CATV Essential Patent License?

  • Manufacturers or distributors of digital cable broadcasting receivers, and providers of digital cable broadcasting services are required to obtain the CATV Essential Patent License.

  • If a company outsources the manufacturing of digital cable broadcasting receivers to a third party, and the receivers are sold under the company's brand, then the party which attaches the brand will be primarily required to obtain the license.

Who are required to obtain the CATV Essential Patent License?

  • Essential Patents (please refer to FAQ page for father information) relating to reception and transmission of digital cable broadcasting are licensed.

Royalty

  • For digital cable broadcasting receivers, the rates indicated in the table below shall apply.

  • Royalties for any case other than set forth above shall be separately determined.

  • As for the Royalties of Broadcasting service, please contact us.

  • Royalties shall be payable at the rates above for the period on and after January 1, 2000 up to the date immediately preceding the execution date of the relevant license agreement.

Duration of License Agreement

  • The license agreement shall take effect retroactively on the first date of the quarterly period that includes the date of agreement execution (the three-month period that begins on either January 1, April 1, July 1, or October 1), and shall expire on March 31, 2027.

  • The license agreement shall be automatically renewed for every five years unless otherwise notified six months prior to the expiration date.
